Protecting Your Hair
POOL PROTECTION
Swimming pools can ruin hair. The chlorine in a pool
is a strong bleach. It will discolor hair and leace it with
an unattractive tinge. Protect your hair before going in by
applying a deep conditioner. Immediately after, rinse your
hair in apple cider vinegar, then with club soda.
The carbonation will lift excess salt and chlorine out.
SUN PROTECTION
It's impossible and impractical to wear head protection
in the sun. Protect your hair by mixing 1/2 cup water with
1/2 teaspoon 25 SPF sunscreen. Spritz on damp hair before
styling.
Apply sunscreen to the part of your hair. If you find it
too messy, then use a lip balm which has a high SPF factor.
SUN-PROOFING COLOR If you're blonde or brunette, go half a shade darker, knowing that the color will fade. If you're a redhead, use a color-locking gloss treatment.
IS YOUR HAIR DRYER DRYING OR FRYING?
Set your dryer on high and direct it to about three
inches from your hand. If it starts to become uncomfortable
to remain in that position you count to five, the setting
is too hot for your hair.
Set dryer on high and direct it about four inches from a mirror.
If you can see a red reflection int he mirror, then it's too hot.
