Hair Color or Not
Some women do it to enhance their skin tone and their facial features. Some women do it for fun, because it is always something different and somewhat of an adventure for them. Some women do it to hide their graying hair.
Whatever reason a woman may have for it, coloring the hair is always a woman’s personal choice. It is always something she may opt to do or she may not. But for a woman who does choose to color her hair, either in a salon or in the comforts of her own home, here are a few questions she should ask herself before dyeing her hair.
Is the color right for me? The dye you pick for your hair should match the color of your skin. A pale complexion will go well with any hair color. However, women with pink-toned skin should shy away from reds and golds and instead have their hair done in ash tones. For women with yellowish skin tones, deep reds are the best color to pick; yellows, golds and orange tones should be avoided. Olive-skinned women would look very well with dark colors.
Should I highlight my hair instead? Highlights work best for women with longer hair rather than with short hair; if you have short hair, you should have a full color instead. If placed subtly around the face, it makes the skin look brighter. Full coloring needs to be touched up once a month, or perhaps once every two months. Highlights should be redone once every two or three months.
Should I do it myself or have it done in a salon? Do-it-yourself color kits are now very easy to use. They are perfect if you find salon service too pricey for your budget or if you simply do not have the time to go to a salon. If you do choose to do it yourself, be careful to wear gloves and wrap your shoulders with an old towel. This will protect your skin from getting stained by the dye. Wash your eyes with water if dye gets in them.
What if I do not like the resulting color of my hair? Even professional stylists make mistakes, or you can happen to change your mind about the color of your hair. In that case, if you had your hair colored in a salon, you can go back and talk to your stylist about fixing it. If you did the coloring yourself, just use a body-building shampoo. A body-building shampoo is designed to wash color out of the hair a lot faster.
What should I do to keep the color of my hair? To keep the color from fading from your hair, wash it with color-enhancing shampoo and conditioner once a week. Color-enhancing shampoos and conditioners are products designed to put some color into the hair.
Whether you should color your hair or not is entirely up to you. A well-done dye job can do wonders in updating our looks and in making us appear trendy and fashionable. Do not overdo it, though, or you might end up with damaged hair.
